Sandrea Falconer tactless, thoughtless

As if her poor conduct of the weekly Jamaica House press briefing was not enough, de facto Information Minister Senator Sandrea Falconer gave us another reason why she is unfit for the job via Facebook on Sunday night. Within minutes of the unfortunate shooting at the Jamaica Labour Party meeting in Sam Sharpe Square, Minister Falconer, in another tactless display of insensitivity, posted, "Anxiously awaiting the police report ... ."

What manner of person, let alone a minister of government - especially one holding the information portfolio - would venture to make such an expression as the first reaction to such an awful tragedy? Why the "anxious wait" for a police report? What would the police report mean to her and the People's National Party?

It wasn't until about an hour later before the minister appeared to have come to her senses when she posted, "Condolences to the families of those who were killed. May those who were injured recover quickly. We must ensure that our elections are peaceful."

Thank God, compassion and civility regained their seat; I only hope Senator Falconer does not regain hers in the Cabinet.
