Install traffic lights at Industrial Terrace intersection

Published:Saturday | March 5, 2016 | 3:00 AM

A traffic signal is urgently needed at the intersection of Industrial Terrace and Marcus Garvey Drive.

This is a 50kph zone. However, traffic proceeding along Marcus Garvey Drive in both directions seems to disobey the speed limit and, as a result, vehicles entering Marcus Garvey Drive from Industrial Terrace intending to turn right or left on to Marcus Garvey Drive encounter difficulty to do so and have to be positioned beyond the line at Industrial Terrace, interrupting the free flow of traffic.

Motorists trying to turn right on to Industrial Terrace from Marcus Garvey Drive encounter the same problems as those trying to enter Marcus Garvey Drive in either direction from Industrial Terrace.

There is always a pile-up of traffic in the right lane of Marcus Garvey Drive, with vehicles trying to turn right, and gridlock on Industrial Terrace with vehicles attempting to turn right or left on to Marcus Garvey Drive.

I observe that the National Works Agency (NWA) is in the process of installing traffic signals at most major intersections.

I would like to ask Stephen Shaw, communication manager of the National Works Agency (NWA), to look at this intersection.

I trust that it is on the list to receive attention. The last thing we would want to see is a fatal or tragic accident.
