Bunting's time to shine
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Now that the general election is over, the People's National Party (PNP) will need to find a new president. There are many potential candidates lining up for the job, including Peter Phillips, Peter Bunting, Phillip Paulwell and Anthony Hylton. Portia Simpson Miller's tenure as party president is untenable and she should not again offer herself for the post of party president.
In my view, Bunting has the necessary managerial and political leadership skills, experience and intellectual capacity which would make him an excellent, successful and well-respected PNP president and future Jamaican prime minister. He has more than 25 years of experience; is a former general secretary of the party, and a highly successful member of parliament. He displays the highest levels of integrity, morals and character and is well admired within the PNP and Jamaica Labour Party.
Bunting should pragmatically lobby and seek the support of the leadership of the party. This would help him to get the
necessary support of delegates at conference.
