New highway presents opportunities

A section of the new highway.

The construction and opening of the Angels to Linstead section of the North South Highway can be considered as a huge achievement for Jamaica. Many felt that this was unachievable.

It is a welcome alternative route to the Bog Walk gorge with the dreaded Flat Bridge and the Rio Cobre River, particularly during the rainy seasons.

No more issues with closure of the gorge causing a reduction in commercial activities, and affecting the livelihood of many.

It is now for the Tourism Product Development Company Limited and other interests to develop the gorge into an attraction. This could create jobs. One can imagine tours going through Linstead and the gorge and re-joining the highway at Angels or on to Spanish Town.

Congratulations to all who were involved in the conception and construction of the highway.
