Ganja still illegal in the US
THE EDITOR, Sir:
There is an old saying: "Whoever thinks education is expensive will encounter a big surprise when ignorance is tried".
The many people who think that marijuana is now legal in America could be in for a big surprise if they are caught trying to smuggle this drug out of Jamaica and into the United States of America.
It is true that most states have legalised ganja for medicinal and recreational use, but there are many guidelines and restrictions that are in place to prevent abuse.
Furthermore, while most states and the District of Columbia (Washington, DC) may have liberalised its usage, marijuana remains unlawful by federal law.
And the law of the federal government supercedes the laws of individual states.
