Thanks for your help, JNBS

This is an open letter to the management and staff of Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS).

As the president of the Church Teachers' College Debate Society, on behalf of the team, I would like to thank Jamaica National Building Society for sponsoring our team to participate in the recently concluded Pan American University Debate Championship 2016. This is the premier debating competition in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. This competition attracts 74 teams from more than 47 universities and colleges in North and South America, Latin America and the Caribbean, including Ivy League schools such as Yale University and Morehouse College.

As we only just celebrated 50 years of existence last year, we must express that we are the first teacher-training institution to participate in an international debating competition of this magnitude and calibre. As such, we are grateful for the opportunity as we see debating as a tool to ignite social change and engage young people in vigorous discussions about local and international issues of importance. I thank the management of JNBS for assisting us, for without your help, this historic aspect of our existence as a college would not have been possible.

I want to encourage you to continue to contribute to the educational welfare and development of young people. This opportunity has caused us to be critical thinkers and problem solvers, which is lacking in the status quo. Your investment in young people should never go unrecognised, and we look forward to us partnering together in the future as we seek to make Jamaica the place to live, work, do business and raise families.
