Board to blame for woeful cricket

Published:Tuesday | April 5, 2016 | 4:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It is disgraceful that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) does not want to pay its players a fair wage for the joy they bring to the Caribbean is disgraceful.

The once No. 1 team in the world is now playing bit part in the cricket world, losing Test series to Bangladesh.

Living in London, I normally have to plan ahead when going to the Caribbean to get tickets for a match. Now there is no need to do so, because the grounds are empty. From a region that loves its cricket so much, why should the grounds be empty?

To many of us, this means the board, not the players, is letting us down. Don't start reprimanding the captain, Darren Sammy, who spoke from his heart, in his post-match comments, after putting a smile back on the faces of millions of West Indies cricket fans.

If the WICB leadership cannot, or is unwilling to, fix the issues plaguing cricket, move over and let somebody who cares about West Indies cricket take charge. Reprimand the board members who have killed West Indies cricket and caused our once proud group of nations not even go to watch these second- and third-rate team you guys see fit to put out, because you do not want to treat the best players with the respect they are due.

We want our cricket back, so Whycliffe 'Dave' Cameron, give it back to us or get out the way. and let somebody that loves the sport in the region do it. Sammy was right with his comments, but he did not go far enough.
