Don’t be quick to hang Burke, Phillips
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It was reported on CVM on its Saturday, April 2, 2016 edition of News Watch that some persons on the National Executive Council (NEC) of the People's National Party are insistent that Paul Burke and Dr Peter Phillips should go, since they appeared to have misread the party's election prospects.
I urge caution on the part of those NEC members. Bear in mind that even the pollsters, with their recent history of credibility, fumbled this time.
There are times when even the best of us do get it wrong. Look at weather forecasters, for example. Even with the very best of training and the most modern prognostication equipment, they still grapple with faulty predictions and tracking of weather systems.
Therefore, I think that it is time for calm analysis that will be geared at painstaking and patient research, rather than pushing for heads to roll.
I think that the phenomenon at work this time around was simply this: "I'm going to vote them out and dem won't even know it."
If this is so, how can Paul Burke, or anyone else for that matter, accurately predict a mood like that with any certainty?
