I would like to extend hearty congratulations to the directors of Jamaica Carnival for bringing back what, I believe, to be one of Jamaica's greatest legacies, that of the late great Byron Lee.

Like Bob Marley, Lee contributed significantly to the development of music and entertainment in Jamaica and on the international scene. He is to be applauded for making a stamp on the world with his unique style and creating Jamaica's very own carnival. Lee was the originator and was purposeful in his actions, trying to create an event that would bring people from all walks of life together.

I was extremely excited when I heard talk that Jamaica Carnival may be making a comeback, but what a spectacle, what pride swelled up in my gut when I saw the road parade and the banner with Lee's image emblazoned on it last Sunday.

I strongly believe that it is an iconic Jamaican brand that must be preserved. I also implore the powers that be to consider including a module or course at the tertiary level focusing on Byron Lee and his massive contribution.

For someone who has been around long enough to see the very first Jamaica Carnival come to life, to witness its growth over the years and obviously Lee's growth, it is just amazing to have this part of our culture back.

Congratulations to all those marshalling this cause and repackaging the brand Jamaica Carnival. The event on Sunday was well organised, and I had a blast. I'm anticipating the full-fledged return of Jamaica Carnival next year, as I'm almost certain it will be nothing less than great!
