Sick of Sammy's butt-kissing

Published:Saturday | April 9, 2016 | 4:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I believe Orville Higgins is spot on in his column 'The Dave Cameron lynch mob', published in The Gleaner on April 9, 2016. I remember when Darren Sammy was so into Ottis Gibson and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and was so rejected by the so-called elite players. Now he has found a way to kiss their butts and to stroke their egos. It sickens me the way he keeps 'bigging up' Chris Gayle.

What has he done as a batsman or a bowler for the West Indies, and especially during the just-concluded T20 World Cup? Bowl three overs and face maybe 10 balls.

DON'T CHANGE RULE

If the WICB pays all monies to only 11 to 15 players, where in the world will it find money to pay all the other players in the Caribbean? West Indies cricket is not just about Chris Gayle, AndrÈ Russell, Darren Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard or Sunil Narine.

The rule preventing West Indies players who don't participate in regional tournaments from suiting up for international cricket should be changed, although I can understand the rationale for its implementation: Without your best players, your domestic competitions are weak, hence weak WI senior teams.
