Crack down on crime in Westmoreland

Published:Monday | May 2, 2016 | 5:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The minister of national security, Robert Montague, recently held a town hall meeting in the parish of Westmoreland, allowing residents to freely voice their concerns. The meeting went well, and the minister must be congratulated for having these consultations.

A significant number of murders occurring in Westmoreland have been attributed to the lottery scam. I urge the Westmoreland police, led by Deputy Superintendent David Whyte, to go all out to investigate, apprehend and charge those criminal scammers.

The national security minister should make it a priority of his to allocate more resources to the Westmoreland Police Division to allow them to more forcefully tackle the parish's crime rate. The parish divisional intelligence unit should be given more equipment and manpower. Undercover detectives should seek to infiltrate those criminal gangs operating in Westmoreland.
