Mafoota thirsts

Published:Tuesday | May 10, 2016 | 12:00 AM

The St James community of Mafoota and surrounding areas have been without running water since the approximately the third week of March. This has been caused by a defect in the pump, which I have been made to understand was sent to Kingston for repairs. Numerous attempts have been made to receive updates on the matter, but to date, nothing satisfactory has been gleaned.

Communication, on multiple occasions, has been made to the regional manager, Mr Roach, but alas, his hands are seemingly tied, as he is only able to estimate based on the information he receives. So far, the commitments have been disappointing. I reached out to the corporate office on numerous occasions and made contact with a Mr Buchanan, who has promised numerous follow-ups but has not kept his promise. To add insult to injury, The NWC has the audacity of providing me with an estimated bill when it knows the pump is out.

Sadly, we have no representatives, as the MP and councillor, who are both Kelliers (Derrick and Martin), seem to have washed their hands of this community.
