Corporate Communication Department

The National Housing Trust (NHT) notes a letter to your newspaper from Dr Daive R. Facey, which was published in your edition of June 11, 2016. The matter raised by Dr Facey focused on the imposition of penalty charges and interest in respect of NHT contribution payments by self-employed persons.

Having investigated the matter, the Trust accepts that there was an anomaly in some instances in the interpretation of late payments, and hence on the application of penalties and interest charged to some persons. Since April 1, the anomaly has been corrected, and the Trust would like to use this opportunity to apologise to Dr Facey and to any other self-employed contributor who may have been affected.

In this regard, we have already contacted Dr Facey and are in discussions with him on the substantial and associated matters raised by him in his recent letter to your newspaper.

We would also like to assure our contributors in the affected category that we will make the necessary adjustments to the affected accounts.
