Malahoo Forte's tweet dangerous

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The plea for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to replace Marlene Malahoo Forte as attorney general is fully supported. We, in the diaspora, are so troubled at having the experience of Jamaica's name being pushed way down again. The international press is not being kind.

But Phillip Mascoll's column missed perhaps the most important aspect of the issue. The attorney general says that the sentiment expressed in her tweet about the flying of the flag was her own personal view.

Well, what would be the opinion given in her official capacity to the Government and the people of Jamaica on the matter? And, how would she expect that opinion to be received?

The point is: A government official, particularly the attorney general for all Jamaicans, including even the condemned man on death row, is not afforded the luxury of publicly expressing personal views.

It is dangerous in the extreme for an attorney general not to appreciate that. In which event, it means that we must fully agree: For Heaven's sake, replace her, Mr Holness!
