Don't abandon women's football

Published:Wednesday | June 29, 2016 | 6:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am struck by the absence of a Premier League for women's football in Jamaica. I will not use this space to argue the inequity, on the sporting landscape, between the genders.

Yes, everyone is commenting on England's loss in the Euros match and Lionel Messi's misfortunes in the Copa America. But news flash! Messi, and all the players on the English team, are accomplished, decorated and financially empowered.

Let us remember our struggling sisters and, in that regard, I implore our corporate families.

Please spare a little from the coffers in sponsoring this programme.

We always use the term 'corporate social responsibility', but in this case it is greatly needed. Young lives can be motivated and indeed, saved by their engagement in football and other sports.
