THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am a proud Jamaican and I read The Gleaner as regularly as I read my Bible. That means daily.
I must comment on the scramble that Jamaica is now undertaking with the expected loss of visitors to the island with the opening of Cuba to American travellers.
Several years ago, there was a low-budget airline called REDjet that started to do business on the island. I seriously feel that Jamaica stifled the opportunities of REDjet, which could have grown into a source of constant travellers to the island to continue to support the tourist sector if it had been given the chance to expand and succeed.
Think about it. Perhaps we need another REDjet. Then Cuba would be a far-fetched notion of worry.
