Turning scrap metal into cash

Published:Thursday | July 14, 2016 | 7:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The government has a lot of old vehicles, really old vehicles. Some are parked while some are barely functional. Why not sell some of those vehicles to the scrap metal industry and use the revenue to purchase newer vehicles, or do something productive with the money?

I passed one particular garage on Moylnes Road in Kingston recently and the number of old police bikes and other government-owned vehicles parked there left me in awe. These should not have to rust and be of no use. I have reason to suspect that the scores of metal shells at the particular location is not the only one in the island.

I urge the Government to get rid of some of these old metals and make money from them. In fact, doing such a thing will not only result in the Government making money, but also the environment will benefit. We will have a cleaner country.
