Retreat division is thirsty, NWC

Published:Tuesday | July 26, 2016 | 7:08 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Sections of the Retreat division in Western St Mary have been without piped water for more than 10 days. Personnel responsible for operations and infrastructure from the Port Maria satellite of the National Water Commission (NWC) have pledged to investigate in order to ensure the return of the commodity, but residents are still waiting with empty bottles, buckets and tanks.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2016 has been the hottest year to date, with increases in global temperatures of over 0.50 degrees Celsius. This does not exclude the Caribbean or the Retreat division. Does anybody care that we have no water to combat the increased temperature? How are these communities supposed to obtain any semblance of prosperity when a basic amenity such as potable water is unavailable?

I implore the NWC to show the residents of the communities of Rocky Hill, Valley Bush, and Davis Town in the Retreat division much more respect.
