Don't disarm lawful citizens
THE EDITOR, Sir:
In case Gordon Robinson doesn't know, here is an old saying of which he should take not: When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Can you imagine the comfort the criminal gunman will have knowing that when he decides to invade your home or Mr Robinson's home (if Mr Robinson's wish becomes reality of only security forces having guns (see his column of Sunday, July 31, 2016), the only weapon he'll probably encounter is a sharpened machete?
Mr Robinson's desire is unworkable because no gunman really wants to get shot, so disarming society would be such a joy to all criminal elements that gun-related crimes will definitely increase. Yes, a few licensed guns do fall into criminals' hands, but compared to disarming the whole society, that would definitely be courting disaster.
