Letter of the Day | The unravelling of Donald Trump and the Republicans
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The people of the United States are watching, with alarm, the unravelling of Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
Known for his business acumen and a pitiful TV show, he has decided to test his chances of becoming president of the United States.
He began by diminishing the success of President Barack Obama by clamouring that he was not qualified to be president because he was born in Kenya. Trump then entered the Republican primary process and immediately started thrashing the ability, energy, and qualifications of his opponents. He has verbally abused every woman who dared to disagree with his politics.
STRONG REPUBLICAN BASE
Fortunately, for him, he has a strong Republican base that is blind to his vague policy declarations, his bombast, his lies and bigotry.
His arrogance has finally backfired. His despicable attack on the Muslim parents of an American hero, who gave up his life to save the lives of his fellow soldiers, has stirred the wrath of decent Americans.
Many Republicans have withdrawn their support because of his lack of judgement and self-control.
His mentality would perhaps drive him to proclaim that Jesus was a pathetic, socialist loser.
Many Americans are now questioning his mental stability.
Establishment Republicans are now fearing the damage Trump is inflicting on himself and the party.
