Shame on JCDC!
THE EDITOR, Sir:
On July 26, I won three medals at Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's (JCDC) Creative Writing Awards after entering for the first time. Albeit writing pieces for four categories and awarded in three, I was not pleased. Why? None of the medals were personalised. Why JCDC? Why?
Why hasn't The JCDC under the stewardship of executive director, Delroy Gordon, and marketing manager, Stephen Davidson, seen it fit to register the names of the winners on these medals? Why not? Many of these writings, from awardees over the years, have gone on to help cement Jamaica's spot in the global space as a creative writing powerhouse. Yet, the awardees merely receive impersonal tangible recognition. No, sir! No, sir! Not acceptable! Put the names on the medals, please!
And on a lesser note, where was the media for this function? Were they not invited by JCDC, or did they not see this as being worthy of coverage?
Sirs, I am planning to enter next year and so I implore you to fix the flaws.
