Still want to see Bolt run
THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is an open letter to Usain Bolt.
Usain, track and field will NEVER, NEVER, be the same without you - well, not in my lifetime. Once again, your remarkable prowess and personality on and off the field resonate the world over.
I love the feeling I get when I see you - a Jamaican great, with intense focus, purpose and motivation, performing on the track. Your innocent, boyish antics on the field are always anxiously anticipated.
Bolt, you are not only a mega-superstar athlete, but someone who exemplifies a plethora of rare
qualities - discipline, resoluteness, resilience, humility, perseverance and love - qualities rarely possessed/seen in any one human being.
Your recent Brazilian flag-draping gesture on your shoulder further demonstrates your genuine love for the Brazilians and your appreciation for being there. And you know what? They adore you, too! This undoubtedly was a gesture of how one can use his/her platform to show unity among nations.
I hope the key players in
CARICOM are looking on. You are phenomenal, marketable, and your image should not be taken for granted.
I implore you now, Usain, continue to run if you can. I would love to see you compete in the World Championships next year. We are not ready to let go of you! If it means competing in just the 100m, we would love to see you run.
We accept that it will no longer be about making or breaking records. We just want to see you run, and WIN YOU WILL! So, please, Usain, run. Run for the world! God bless!
