Parents, help your children
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It's back-to-school time now for our nation's children and we as adult and parents must play our role to ensure the safety and proper growth of them so that we may have a better society.
I urge the media to help in the upbringing of the children by broadcasting more educational programmes. If education can be a focal point in their lives, it will help keep them out of trouble, and instill discipline in the classroom and thus lessen the burden on the teachers.
Parents, stand up with your children and do not leave the burden on the teachers. When your children come home from school in the afternoon, help with them with their homework and even if there is no homework, go through their books. That will let both children and teachers see the interest placed in them from home.
Fathers, boys need you around at all times to be good role models. A home without you is a home that breeds crime and other wrong doing in society.
As a member of the Anglican Church of Jamaica and the Cayman Island, and also a member of a school parent teachers' association, I pray for God's continued blessing on our nation's children.
