Sutton Street Court needs attention
THE EDITOR, Sir:
People attending the Sutton Street Court are treated like trash! And it is time that this 'trash treatment' comes to an end. I am 58 years of age. On Sept 2, 2016 I went to this court due to a summons that I was issued.
I got there at 9:45 a.m. My case was schedule for Court 1. The place was crowded with people who had their case on the same day. The majority of us had to stand from 9:45 a.m. when I got there until 1:45 p.m. when my case was called up. Many of us were senior citizens and it did not make any difference. People sat on the steps of the stairways to avoid the long standing. My God, what kind of country is this? Why can't we do some basic things properly? Why schedule so many cases on a particular day when it is clear that adequate seats are not available for people to sit on.
If there are only enough benches to seat 30 persons, why ask 200 people to come and suffer the indignity of standing for four hours before they are invited in to the court room to answer to the judge? This is a national disgrace! It points to the chief justice's poor stewardship. She is not fit for the job. And the clerk of court is just as bad - he is careless if not incompetent to administrate the number of persons suitable to be invited for court.
If we do not have enough resources to purchase the necessary number of benches, then make a request of Food for the Poor. They can probably help. Let them say that they can't, but don't continue to sit around doing nothing and causing persons to suffer.
