'Donkey Man' worthy of adulation
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I was born and raised in rural Jamaica during an era when the donkey was critical to the livelihood of a significant number of rural folks. Maybe this is the reason I have so much regard for Javon 'Donkey Man' Francis, now the 'Transporter'.
He, like the donkey, a generally quiet, unassuming beast of burden, has been asked to carry the weight of the 4x400m relay team. In all three international 4x400m relays in which he has represented Jamaica, the weight of determining whether or not Jamaica earns a medal has been placed squarely on his back.
Until now, as 'Donkey Man', Javon has carried the weight like the beast of burden after which he was named by friends, not to discredit, but to highlight his excellent work ethic.
I only hope the Transporter will be able to respond in a similar way to the greatly loved and admired 'Donkey Man'.
