Abuse of our women

THE EDITOR, Sir:

One of the many good gifts that God has given to us is the gift of freedom.

If someone is preventing you from utilising your freedom one way or the other, you are in bondage and are a slave to that person.

Therefore, when a bully or a merciless abuser tells his wife he will kill her if she leaves him or if she is seen with another man, he is definitely taking away her freedom and controlling her.

When a man is treating his woman like a punching bag and threatens to slaughter her if she parts from him, he is definitely, stealing her freedom.

I was listening to a radio call-in programme recently, and I was shocked to hear of how some Jamaican women are being mercilessly abused by their spouses.

Some women have been beaten so badly, their faces are deformed, their eyes turned black and blue, their hands are broken, they have been punched and kicked like mangey dogs.

I call that brutality
