Great to see big men cry

Published:Friday | September 23, 2016 | 9:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The tragic collapse of young Dominic James during the match between St George's College and Excelsior High School, and his eventual demise, have given our country a time to think and grieve and wonder how the life of a person with so much potential can be honoured.

It has also provided an opportunity for the men of our country to display human emotions, tears, prayer, comforting each other. That his father was at the match and drove him to the hospital must be a profound experience of love beyond all human understanding.

Let us use this time to embrace our humanity and our ability to love one another. I long to see Jamaica become a country where men can display their emotions without fear of being labelled or stigmatised.

There must also be lessons for us to understand how this young man was so loved and respected by his family, coach, school and all who knew him.

Thanks, Dominic, for reminding us of our humanity. Let us provide consolation and support for his family.
