Jamaica needs another 'Gully Gov't'
THE EDITOR, Sir:
What if we had an Alexander Bustamante. The People's National Party won the election in 1972 using the slogan that the Jamaica Labour Party was a 'gully government'.
Not many people will know that there was a time when the Sandy Gully had no outlet to the sea and storm water would fill Spanish Town Road between Four Miles and Six Miles. Bustamante built a channel from Molynes Road to the sea. We all know how well it has served. Who will build the necessary waterways to carry the water from the hills to the sea?
Members of Parliament sit in Gordon House never seeming to think about calamities and how much work could be given to workers to build waterways to the sea, as well as keeping the existing ones clean. If people are dumping garbage in the gullies, why not engage workers to clean it and clean it continuously?
Do we have to frighten the population whenever there is a storm threat?
