Flat out disgusted

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Why do the powers that be hate it when regular Jamaicans try to achieve anything? Is it so wrong for someone to want more, to work for more, to achieve more? The comments and dialogue swirling around regarding the issuing of a telecom license to Caricel/Symbiote Investments, is mind boggling, to say the least. I am trying to remember if there was such an issue or investigation when Digicel attempted to enter the market.

All I can remember is Cable &Wirelss (then) having a fit over its possible loss of market share, but that is to be expected. How can more competition in a sector that is plagued with poor customer service and unreliable networks, not be good for people like me. I find the remarks of the contractor general ridiculous and the comments by Joshua Polachec of the US Embassy rude and out of order. Mr Polachec needs to delve into matters that directly relate to the US embassy like the US citizens and other foreigners with criminal records or charges against them, setting up businesses in Jamaica. That, I would think, is a bigger issue. When did it become the business of the US embassy to interfere with matters in the local telecoms market?

Let me just remind Mrs Harrison and Polachec that the checks were made prior to the issuing of the licence.

I have so many questions and I am so very perturbed, annoyed and flat out disgusted by the happenings of the last two weeks. This smacks of a conspiracy. Stop this rubbish and focus on issues that need your attention!
