Review 'prosperous' in partnership
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am with the leader of the Opposition, Portia Simpson Miller, on the matter of not having the word 'prosperous' in the title of this new social partnership between the wider society and the political parties, in the governance of the nation.
I laud the creation of this mechanism. And like much of life, we do not have perfection, but at least we could try to start out on the right track. When will we ever have prosperity, and should we ever reach there, what happens then? So, for me, the word in the title is quite inappropriate.
Perhaps one of the first tasks of this partnership is to adjust its name and clearly establish its role and protocol. I see this as the beginning of a road on which we must travel to have sustainable growth and development.
Right now, there is a pile-up of things to do, and as we get them done, because of collaboration rather than adversarial relationships, will that be prosperity, and then what?
What we find here is the continuation of the political one-upmanship game, which has been the reason why we are where we are today. Both parties have brought us to where we are today.
