Anatomy of a leader
THE EDITOR, Sir:
A leader is not only someone who is the head of a group, but is also someone who is able to influence others to convert to his/her own beliefs or views. As a result of the ability to influence, the culture of the group is derived. This culture can be positive or negative.
When one decides to become part of any group, it is very important that the agenda or vision of leadership is known and assessed.
Leaders should be able to unify, plan, control, coordinate. They should be caregivers, and they should be truthful in conversations.
Hence, they should have integrity. They should be supportive and not divisive. Leaders should not take heed to gossip and should be sober in conduct. Leaders should not succumb to the weaknesses of those they lead, but they should seek to convert weaknesses to strengths. They should be true motivators.
It is very important that leaders possess the mentioned qualities, so as not to water down standards not only of the group but of society at large. Therefore, they should aim to maintain and improve morale and values, so that they can become world changers.
Leaders, take pride in your position. The world is relying on you to set good examples for tomorrow. Therefore, let the culture of tomorrow start with you today.
