Traffic court and democracy

Published:Wednesday | January 4, 2017 | 1:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Many persons have used these pages to complain that Kingston's Traffic Court is little more than a poorly run Government feeding tree.

While members of the public are forced into compliance with their civic responsibilities on the inside of the court, located at 36 Camp Road, government agents are busy on the outside towing their vehicles for breaching 'no parking' rules. This, even as there is absolutely no provision for the parking of vehicles at the court.

There are always some among the court's daily

attendees who opt to plead guilty to charges against them, simply to save time and get out of the court as quickly as possible.

I believe that this is unwise. The time is a small price to pay for preserving our

democracy.
