Stop bashing Christians
THE EDITOR, Sir:
You know, I've always stood by and heard people from all walks of life bash Christians and the Church whenever crime and violence escalates as if Christians are not humans, too, who bleed and have a natural fear for their own safety and that of their friends and families.
Yes, they are scared, too, but it's that faith in their Almighty God that keeps them going along the highways and byways in the depressed and violence-plagued communities you pass in your tinted buses and taxis and personal vehicles with the windows rolled up high.
Christians don't always have the luxury of posting on Facebook as often as you and I or being featured on JIS unless their ventures are somehow financed by corporate Jamaica that will milk it for all the PR dollars that it is worth.
No real Christian is throwing his hands in the air and waiting on God to deliver him and not doing his part to secure his own safety and that of his friends and family. That would be foolish. What they are doing is securing themselves, their loved ones and their communities, as best they can, and relying on God to give them the wisdom and courage to face any eventuality.
Don't be misled into thinking that Christians are only praying and lying back expecting God to do everything. You won't always hear of what they're doing because it's not their style to advertise their many outreach programmes, guidance sessions, and counselling forums.
