JSIF investing in St Thomas

Published:Saturday | February 4, 2017 | 2:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

This is an open letter to Sania Brown.

We make reference to your letter to the editor, published in The Gleaner dated February 2, 2017. The Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) acknowledges your concern regarding the Employment Internship Programme and the stance you have taken on behalf of your parish.

There are programmes within JSIF that provide support to St Thomas. These include:

A) Hurricane/tropical storm recovery initiatives.

B) Sanitation projects.

C) Infrastructural developments (roads, water supply, school facilities).

D) Capacity-building initiatives.

E) Agricultural initiatives.

F) Psychosocial interventions.

JSIF is currently undertaking expansion and rehabilitation of the Morant Bay Primary School, and plans are being made for construction and equipping of the Yallahs Fire Station.

The projects outlined above were identified and addressed based on community-based organisations' submissions requests for assistance. It is through this process that those identified needs were addressed.

We commend your spirit in being an advocate for the youth and youth training in your parish and your raising of awareness to all on this important topic.

We will take this advice in our future plans and policies for our interventions in St Thomas and Jamaica as a whole.
