Church ought to stand by Israel
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I noted with interest the reported posture of the Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC) against the Government's recent discussion with Israel about "possibilities for cooperation in water, agriculture and domestic security". The JCC went on to warn the Government about dealings with Israel, as if doing so was evil.
I suggest that the JCC be careful in how it opposes Israel or advises the Government to do so, given that the Church's umbilical cord is tied to Israel. I must remind the JCC that the Church, represented by the JCC, in part, and the Bible it adheres to, were birthed out of the roots and history of Israel.
Is the Church ashamed of and despising its God and His people? Has the God of Israel ceased to be the God of Israel because they do wrong?
On what basis can the sentiments of the global community take precedence for the Church over biblical authority? Even if there are disagreements, the Church cannot biblically abandon Israel.
So it is right for the JCC to be concerned about any bad behaviour on the part of Israel. However a husband should not abandon his wife because of bad action. No! You stand resolute with them while standing staunchly against the behaviour.
