Bus bullies plague Paddington Terrace

Published:Saturday | March 4, 2017 | 12:00 AM

I am appealing to the Traffic Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to pay attention to the issue of undisciplined Coaster bus drivers who use Paddington Terrace to enter East Kings House Road during the morning traffic period.

Since last week, between 8 and 8:30 a.m., I have observed what seems to be the norm - that Coaster buses bypass the line of traffic, travel down the right-hand side of the road and bore in front of the line of cars to continue on their journey. Sometimes, they encounter oncoming cars trying to enter Paddington Terrace, and the drivers have to wait or move aside so that the bully bus can continue on its merry way.

I was appalled, but yet not surprised, to see a clearly marked JUTA bus committing this infraction.

It is unfortunate that such bad driving is a standard practice for those who provide public transportation services. I appreciate the problems plaguing that sector and the need that many of my fellow citizens have to use public transportation. It is unfortunate that whenever people travel in one of these vehicles, their lives are at risk.
