Watch your words

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Reverend Devon Dick, in his article in the Wednesday, March 8 edition of The Gleaner, among other things, referred to homosexuality as an "orientation". To my mind, this is unfortunate. I am hoping that this term as used by him was done so, harmlessly.

To describe homosexuality as a orientation is to accept that it is probably OK and natural to have same-sex preferences. For the Church, it is not. That is not to say that Reverend Dick is sympathetic towards homosexuality, but we have to be careful in our expressions so as not to give fodder to the misguided.
