A tribute to Fay Saunders
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The passing of the outstanding educator and exemplary patriot, Fay Saunders, revives memories of a family friend, and profes-sional colleague of my late father, who I am indeed fortunate to have had as one of my mentors.
In a public career that spanned nearly five decades, she served as classroom teacher, principal of St Andrew High School, founding member and general secretary of the Jamaica Teachers' Association, member of the Caribbean Examinations Council, and consultant.
In her roles as senator and parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Education, Fay Saunders also continued the fine tradition established by some of Jamaica's finest educators who combined professional integrity with service in the national movement. She brought except-ionally high standards and deep personal commitment to a life of public service and provides present and future generations with an example worthy of emulation.
