Red Stripe arrogant in tax threat

I am most displeased with Red Stripe's warning that the increased special consumption tax on liquor will cause the company to reconsider a US$20-million investment in Jamaica. The response by Managing Director Ricardo Nuncio was far too arrogant and disrespectful of not only the Government but the people of Jamaica. It is equivalent to some imperial master reprimanding his subjects for actions the master deems wrong.
Red Stripe's reaction, especially because of the business they are in, was, frankly, not wise, and has not resulted in meaningful support from other quarters, including the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, which have come out favourably about the new tax package.
Red Stripe, which is owned by Heineken, seems to have squandered significant goodwill, especially last year, where all its good work in training and improving young people and showcasing their business savvy was there for all to see.
Let us hope that good sense will prevail. Understand the importance of managing what you say publicly and how and when you say it.
