A tad too spicy, Gleaner
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It appears by the publication of the attached picture that The Gleaner is trying to spice up its publication for greater appeal in the face of fierce media competition.
I believe, though, that The Gleaner, having established itself more than 180 years ago as a leading family and business publication, is held to a much higher standard than the competition and should be more circumspect and careful in what it publishes for public consumption.
The picture of Spice, the dancehall entertainer, published in The Gleaner of Friday, March 17, 2017, should never find space in a family newspaper, especially at a time when there is consensus on the need to reduce the exposure of our youth to sexually explicit lyrics and images. Do not surrender values in the bid to be relevant.
