Shaw finance minister of the year?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It is with a great sense of sadness and loss for words that I read an article in the Jamaica Observer newspaper headlined 'Shaw named Regional Finance Minister of the Year'.
You can just imagine how this baffled me and caused me to wonder on what basis and what were the criteria used to judge Mr Shaw, because, surely, it could not be the same Mr Shaw who, when his administration was in power prior to this one, ran the country to a standstill, where nobody was willing to lend Jamaica any money.
The article further stated that Shaw has "kept a tight hand on government spending", but this is the same Shaw that would have approved a massive de-bushing programme that is now being investigated by the OCG.
It is the same Shaw that had a massive phone bill of $8.5 million, which taxpayers have to pay?
If this is the same Shaw that this publication has sought to name as Regional Finance Minister of the Year, then the region is in a crisis.
But I must say that I find comfort in the fact that they did highlight that he has continued the work started by the previous administration.
I find comfort in knowing that I have seen worse, and Donald Trump is still president of the USA.
