Women our best bet for ZOSO
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am one of the greatest admirers of Owen Ellington and Reneto Adams, but I could not say, and will not say, I don't welcome the latest strategic development by the police as they have.
The zones of special operations (ZOSOs) are definitely a move in the right direction to place fear into the minds of the criminals in these various communities. It is a big boost for social intervention in these neighbours.
From my vantage point, I don't have a better statistical report than those persons who make these crucial decisions. I am only hoping they have made the right ones. This prior warning to these criminals is a wrong move and we won't get much from these crime plans if we give away our hand to the wrongdoers. We must surreptitiously come upon them and 'eat their food'.
Breaking the backs of these criminals is the ultimate aim of the law-enforcement officers. We can only do this if we learn to trust the people, especially the women, who can divulge information on these criminals, if the citizens trust the security forces.
I think the strategy the police should adapt is to solidify the relationship between themselves and the women who are fed up with crime. We can always make breakthroughs in denting the criminal network by meeting the women halfway.
