Word to the wise

Published:Friday | November 3, 2017 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

We are now approaching the Christmas season. History has taught us that during this time of year, there are more parties, and consequently, more drinking. This inevitably means that there is more drunk driving. Before we get into the full swing of the 2017 Christmas season, I just want to share a word to the wise - don't drink and drive. No matter how convinced you might be that you will be able to drive home safely, once you have been drinking, please arrange to have a friend take you home, or call a taxi.

Sometimes we are more compromised than we realise, and in matters as grave as this, it is always better to be cautious. One bad decision made when drunk can ruin your life and the lives of others. Before you get behind the wheel of the car, think about your family and friends. What would they do if you were to be killed while driving home drunk? What would they think of your decision to do something as dangerous as that?

With a little planning, we can all make it through this season safely. Let us do all that is necessary to make this happen.
