Still waiting on the PNP's ‘renewal’
THE EDITOR Sir:
The previous elections in South East St Mary have not been so great for the People's National Party (PNP). At the end of the by-election, the deputy general secretary of the party, in an interview with Cliff Hughes, articulated that it was a "buy election".
A few days later, the outspoken Damion Crawford, who I applaud for his sincere honesty, made it clear that what took place in St Mary was not a 'buy election', but what I call progressive campaigning; one which saw the Jamaica Labour Party spreading the message that connected to the people, one which the people could relate to.
But there is more!
General secretary, Julian Robinson, now comes out and says that the party never knew Dr Alexis was Canadian. Are you serious? How barefaced and dishonest can this PNP become? I am pretty sure that Dr Alexis filled out a form which would have a specific section that required him to outline his nationality. Every form in Jamaica has that section. The general secretary and the party must be honest to the people. I hope that you, Mr Julian Robinson, are reading this, and I have a few questions to put to you: Did Dr Alexis receive any sensitisation about the requirements in representing the people? Was the party aware of the conflict this would cause? Was Dr Alexis asked about his nationality prior to Nomination Day? Was the PNP of the opinion that Dr Alexis' nationality would not be made public? Can the party president make public to the people of Jamaica when they discovered Dr Alexis' nationalities?
This entire event has only highlighted how disingenuous, deceitful, dishonest and unfortunate that this current PNP organisation has 'renewed" itself to become. I wonder if they respect our constitution, moreso do they even respect themselves? Is this the renewal Lisa Hanna spoke of? Dr Peter Phillips ought to be ashamed of himself.
I am still waiting to see the renewal of which they speak!
