Accountability from government a must
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I was pleased to hear the cruel but kind comments International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde made on her recent visit to Jamaica with regards to trimming back the public sector by way of reform to make it more efficient to the public.
Ms Lagarde had made it quite clear in saying that the public-sector wage bill was a heavy burden on the country's growth and by reducing all areas of the public sector, the Government must be held responsible for any savings they make.
Over the years, Jamaica has seen administration after administration throwing money towards the pubic sector, accounting for just salaries alone, with not much scope to improve the sector itself.
We need reforming. I do hope that the present government listens this time around.
