Too much Americanisation
THE EDITOR, Sir:
While I applaud Jamaican businessmen Adam Stewart and Ian Dear for investing in their homeland via their slated Starbucks rollout of stores, I don't like how Americanised Jamaica's food landscape has become.
Why, like other locally created and owned cafes and restaurants, couldn't these two brilliant businessmen have introduced a new cafe to Jamaica, with the goal of becoming as good as or better than Starbucks?
In that regard, I applaud Jamaican business icons Vincent Chang, Jukie Chin, Thalia Lyn, Adrian Foreman, the Sharpe brothers, and Mrs. Clarke for investing in and introducing Tastee, Juici Patties, Island Grill, Mother's, Cafe Blue, and Devon House I-Scream to Jamaica's fast-food landscape. These fast-food giants have all become highly successful.
The more locally created and Jamaican-owned businesses and brands that exist, the stronger Brand Jamaica will become.
