TV star Meghan brings fresh drama to royals
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Like the evolution of television, the British royal family has, finally, become colourised, albeit to a small degree, with the recent engagement (and pending nuptials) of Meghan Markle to Prince Harry. This is a long overdue and very good thing, from racial, social, diplomatic and historical standpoints.
For me, Harry and Meghan's engagement is my favourite news story of 2017. In choosing to marry Meghan - a woman of colour and an American - Prince Harry has become the leading outlier of British royal tradition and, in this regard, he should be highly commended.
Remarkably, though not surprisingly, Meghan's stunning beauty, intelligence and charm have already begun to endear her to the British people. Like the late Princess Diana, I have a strong feeling that Meghan, after tying the royal knot with Harry, will, in due course, become one of the most popular and beloved members of the British royal family.
