Norman Manley High not a 'violent school'
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I write with total dissatisfaction in response to your Gleaner headline 'Fearsome Four: MOE fits first set of violent schools with metal detectors', dated Thursday, November 16, 2017.
I must indicate that the headline does not reflect anything that was said at the function. My school, Norman Manley High, which was mentioned, has made positive strides over the years and will not accept the label 'violent school'.
We at Norman Manley are happy for the proactive efforts of the Ministry of Education to partner with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in acquiring these metal detectors. We are indeed pleased that our school was selected to receive one of the walk-through metal detectors, as it will enhance the general safety and security of our students and staff.
The Gleaner is highly respected and headlines like this only seeks to undermine the dignity of our students.
Please be a little bit more sensitive to the feelings of the students, as you seek to report on schools.
