Remembering Ian Boyne, ‘the Dean’
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Anyone who knew Ian Boyne would not deprive him of the title 'Dean of Columnists'. His expanse of knowledge and depth of understanding were his hallmark for producing reasonable, unbiased arguments. This placed him among the very few persons in the country who had that dispassionate skill.
I spoke to him this past Wednesday when he called to say that he was out of intensive care in the hospital and we made an arrangement to meet this week. His voice was strong and his mood, as always, fresh. He and I were accustomed to meeting where and when we could exchange views of our feelings and understandings. I will miss these enlightening sessions and his exploration of new thinking.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the family.
