Letter of the Day | Enid Bennett's political achievements a mystery to none
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The passing of former member of parliament, Enid Bennett, has brought sadness, not only to me personally, as her former Linstead neighbour, but to her party and the entire nation.
It should be regarded as no mystery that Enid Bennett was able to vanquish all her political foes over three decades with such ease and grace. This lady possessed a unique combination of admirable qualities that forced even her opponents to take notice. I say unique because I think that it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to find another politician who conducted himself/herself with such dignity, while earning the enviable reputation as a formidable foe.
My sincere hope and prayer is that politicians of all ages and parties, including aspiring ones, took notes and try to emulate this wonderful lady, thereby creating a shift from the cannibalistic type of politics that has crippled our nation. If this happens, there would be great hope, and many of us would seriously consider returning home to the land of our birth.
